Picking up five more medals on day two of competition, the Neutral Athlete delegation now leads the medal table for the 2026 European Junior Championships.

The Neutral Athletes won three events Wednesday night to bring their gold medal count up to four, surpassing Great Britain in the rankings. The first gold came courtesy of Grigorii Chernogaev, who prevailed in the boys’ 50 back in 24.84; he narrowly out-touched Artsiom Yarmak of Belarus, who claimed silver to bring home the first medal of the meet for his country.

Sofia Anufrieva secured the Neutral Athletes’ second gold medal of the night, winning the girls’ 50 breast in 30.88 while Belarus again secured silver thanks to Valeryia Shylko (31.38).

The Neutral Athletes closed out the night in style, racing to victory in the mixed 4×100 free relay in a new world junior record time of 3:23.96. The team of Egor Proshin, Mikhail Shcherbakov, Kseniia Sorokina and Kira Manokhiina won by over two-and-a-half seconds, as they took down the world junior, European junior and championship records in one fell swoop.

Great Britain picked up another gold on night two, with Max Morgan winning the boys’ 50 breast in 27.26. Meanwhile, Germany launched itself onto the medal table in style with a gold-medal performance in the girls’ 200 free thanks to Linda Roth, who stopped the clock in 1:57.79.

Turkey and Romania picked up one gold apiece, marking their only medals of the meet thus far. Turkey’s Ahmet Mete Boylu won the boys’ 200 free in 1:45.68, while Romania’s Daria Mariuca Silisteanu prevailed in the girls’ 50 back in 27.94.

Four countries broke onto the medal table for the first time in this competition, each bringing home a silver: Lithuania, Spain, Czechia and Greece. Rounding out the table, France secured two bronze medals to inch its way into the rankings.
