Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

German breaststroke specialist Simon Schumacher has announced his commitment to swim for West Virginia University beginning in the fall of 2026. Coming to Morgantown from Stuttgart, Schumacher currently trains with SV Cannstatt 1898 sports club, where he also excels at the IM events.

Schumacher turned in a series of fast swims at the 2025 German Age Group Championships (LCM) last summer, posting a lifetime best in all four of his events. He won the 200 breast (2:16.98) and 200 IM (2:05.36)and snagged the runner-up spot in the 50 breast (28.80) and 100 breast (1:03.02).

At the 2025 German Short Course Championships (SCM) in November, Schumacher logged another string of personal best performances. He placed 5th in the 200 IM (2:01.89), 12th in the 200 breast (2:12.22) and 16th in the 100 breast (1:00.67). He also finished 15th in the prelims of the 400 IM (4:30.54), clocking a lifetime best in each of his events.

Most recently, Schumacher competed at the 137th German Championships (LCM) in April. He contested the 50 breast (29.29), 100 breast (1:02.43 – PB), 200 breast (2:17.43) and 200 IM (2:06.15).

Best Times LCM ( SCY Conversion)

50 breast – 28.80 (25.04) 100 breast – 1:02.43 (54.44) 200 breast – 2:16.98 (1:59.80) 200 IM – 2:05.36 (1:50.05) 400 IM – 4:30.54 (3:57.96)

A Division I program, WVU competes in the Big 12 Conference, with the men’s team taking 7th at this past season’s conference championships before sending one diver, Levi Hellman, to compete at the NCAA Division I Men’s Championship. Based on the results from the 2026 Big 12 Conference Championships and his projected converted times, Schumacher would have landed in the ‘C’ final in the 100 breast, giving him a chance to score some points right from the start.

On the team itself, Schumacher is poised to rank 5th in the 100 breast and 400 IM and 7th in the 200 breast and 200 IM this coming season, although that does not account for the other incoming freshmen.

Joining Schumacher in the Mountaineers’ class of 2030 are Owen Guthrie, Jin Rossi, Jay Hickman, Dan Ginaitis, Emre Zeytinoglu, Rylan Sepulveda, Roman Torres, Carter Bradley, Kenneth McGlothen and Owen Eisenhofer, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
