ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Officers responded to two separate shootings that they believe were linked early Sunday morning, leaving a total of seven people shot and one person stabbed in downtown Rochester.
The response
Police heard multiple gunshots around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday from a parking lot at 275 East Ave., then immediately heard shots coming from East Broad Street. Officers flooded both areas as the shots were fired.
This comes after officers got reports of large groups of people coming from East Avenue, Alexander, Union, and East Broad streets.
In the area of 475 East Broad St., officers said they found three shooting victims and one stabbing victim. The victims ranged in age from 12 to 18 years old.

During the immediate response, officers stopped two vehicles — one on East Avenue, with the help of a drone, and one on East Broad Street.
Officers recovered two loaded handguns from the East Avenue traffic stop, and two male suspects are being charged with criminal possession of a weapon. A flatbed truck towed away the black car around 5 a.m. The suspects are Larry Dillon, age 29, and Jadell Williams, age 28.
At the other scene, officers recovered one loaded ghost handgun with an extended magazine from the East Broad Street stop. A 17-year-old male is also being charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
More than 50 gunshots were fired from multiple weapons in both incidents combined. In some video from the scenes, fireworks could still be heard and seen going off, police say.
New York State Police, the Rochester Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies, and Greece police were involved.

Three people initially had life-threatening injuries, but police used life-saving tourniquets to save them.
The majority of the shooting victims appear to be unintended targets, police said.

“Last night, well after fireworks celebrations concluded, large groups remained in areas downtown and in multiple incidents, eight people ended up in our emergency rooms. I thank God no one was killed.
“As law enforcement teams piece together the details, I am thankful the Rochester Police Department was prepared with staffing and technology to disperse the crowds and immediately identify potential suspects. We will continue our work with law enforcement and the community to tighten our focus on those few who were responsible for so much violence.
“This is precisely why I maintain a gun violence state of emergency. Despite the continued efforts of my administration and our law enforcement partners, we still have individuals who continue to obtain and use illegal guns on our streets. I will not waver in my focus to address violence in Rochester, and will only intensify our efforts with urgency and resolve.“
