Kentucky has added Ben Keast to its coaching staff, the school announced on Thursday. Keast fills a position after the program parted ways with coaches Matt Martinez and Karissa Kruszewski back in February.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Ben to Kentucky Swimming & Diving,” said head coach Bret Lundgaard. “He is an outstanding coach, but even more importantly, he’s an exceptional person whose character, humility, and ability to connect with people make him a perfect fit for our culture. He is a gifted communicator who builds meaningful relationships with athletes while holding them to an elite standard.”

Keast arrives in Lexington after most recently spending the last three seasons with SwimMAC Carolina, one of the top USA Swimming club teams. He served as an assistant coach for the program’s High Performance Training Group. SwimMAC earned team titles a the 2024 Winter Junior East Championships as well as at the 2025 Summer Junior Championships.

In addition to SwimMAC, Keast also was head coach at Charlotte Country Day School since 2023. There he led the girls team to back-to-back Division I State Championships in 2024 and 2025. That marked the school’s first titles in two decades.

Before arriving at SwimMAC, Keast spent four years as an assistant coach with the Swimming Canada High Performance Centre in Vancouver. He was a coach at the 2021 Swimming Canada Backstroke Camp and team coach for the 2019 Pan American Games. He most recently served as a coach for the 2025 USA Swimming National Select Camp.

He earned his bachelor’s degree English Literature from Simon Fraser University in 2009 and went on to earn a master’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in high-performance coaching and technical leadership from the University of British Columbia in 2021.

Back in May, Kentucky also added Adriana Contreras to the staff as an assistant coach. Contreras arrives from the University of Nevada. The Kentucky women finished 12th out of 13 teams at the 2026 SEC Championships while the men were 8th out of 11 teams.
