ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Court staff at the Monroe County Hall of Justice marked America’s 250th birthday with a public musical tribute on Friday afternoon.
The celebration kicked off at 12:30 p.m. at the Hall of Justice in Rochester. The program featured patriotic performances by court staff, remarks from local judges, and several musical numbers, including American standards like “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “America the Beautiful.”
Judge Bill Taylor of New York’s 7th Judicial District said the event was about celebrating America and the talented employees of the local judicial system.
“We have a lot of extraordinarily talented court employees, some amazing people who are very talented, so we came up with the idea of having them sing patriotic songs,” he said. “So when you think about that Declaration of Independence, which gave birth to our Constitution 12 years later, I think it’s fantastic to have the very people who run the branch of government on behalf of the people, the judiciary, the third branch, celebrate together.”
Organizers said they hope the music and sense of community will carry through as Rochester celebrates America’s 250th all summer long.
