The Rockies have released veteran right-hander Erasmo Ramirez, according to his transactions tracker at MLB.com.
The well-traveled Ramirez began the season in the Mexican League with los Algodoneros del Unión Laguna. Although Ramirez yielded 11 runs on 17 hits and two walks over 12 innings with the club, the Rockies took a flier on the 36-year-old in early May. After signing a minor league deal, Ramirez endured an even worse stretch in 10 appearances and seven starts with Triple-A Albuquerque. Across 31 innings in the offensively charged Pacific Coast League, he pitched to a sky-high 11.90 ERA. Ramirez surrendered a similarly jaw-dropping 50 hits, including eight home runs, while posting just 19 strikeouts against 16 walks.
The pitching-starved Rockies ranked 25th in the majors in ERA (4.59) when they signed Ramirez, who they hoped would eventually work his way back to the bigs. They are now dead last in that category (5.51), which is the main reason they own a major league-worst 32-50 record. However, Ramirez’s woeful 2026 performance made it clear he would not have done anything to help the Rockies’ cause. The team moved on as a result.
While this has been a brutal season for Ramirez, the Nicaragua native has put together a long and respectable career since he debuted with the Mariners 14 years ago. Also a former Ray, Red Sox, Met, Tiger and Twin, Ramirez pitched in the majors in each season from 2012-25. Over 860 innings and 336 appearances (96 starts), he has recorded a 4.34 ERA with an 18% strikeout rate, 6.4% walk rate and a 43.8% ground-ball rate.
