The three-day competition is expected to bring nearly 700 participants across 36 nations, with the host country swimmers vying for any remaining additional slots on the European Championships roster. Up to three Italians per each race may be nominated alongside those already qualified from the Riccione Championships earlier this year. The talent, both domestically and from foreign athletes, is undeniable, as multiple Olympic medalists, world champions and European champions are among the entrants.
The top Americans include the always-impressive Olympic medalist duo of Gretchen Walsh and Alex Walsh, while returning world record holder Kristof Milak of Hungary is set to follow-up his impressive performances already established on this year’s Mare Nostrum Tour.
Although Sweden’s Olympic champion Sarah Sjostrom no longer appears on the entries, Italy’s Sara Curtis, Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey and on-fire Marrit Steenbergen of the Netherlands will ensure there is no shortage of speed.
Olympic medalist and former world record holder David Popovici, British world record holder Adam Peaty and Italian Olympic champion Nicolo Martinenghi are also set to take on multiple events.
Throw in numerous elite-level athletes from Greece, Ireland, Denmark, Russia and beyond and you will not want to miss this high-octane mega swimming event.
