The Chicago Blackhawks are pulling off a blockbuster trade before the NHL Draft, reportedly acquiring defenseman Bowen Byram from the Buffalo Sabres.
According to multiple reports, including from NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Blackhawks will also acquire winger Jordan Greenway in the trade.
In exchange, the Blackhawks will send the No. 4 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft to the Sabres, along with a second-round pick and defenseman Louis Crevier.
Byram was the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche, taken one pick after the Blackhawks drafted center Kirby Dach.
He had one of the best seasons of his NHL career last season, scoring 11 goals and dishing out 31 assists in 82 games as the Sabres won a division title for the first time in 20 years.
In six NHL seasons, Byram has 44 goals and 108 assists in 328 games, and has averaged 21:19 of ice time per game.
He’s entering the final year of a two-year contract that carries a cap hit of $6.25 million.
The 29-year-old Greenway appeared in 40 games for the Sabres last season, with one goal and five assists in those contests. He has 56 career goals in 475 games played with the Sabres and Minnesota Wild.
Crevier appeared in a career-high 78 games for the Blackhawks last season, with seven goals and 18 assists, along with 63 penalty minutes. He took 114 shots on goal in those games.
