San Diego police shot a suspect Tuesday after the person allegedly set an apartment on fire in Cortez Hill.

One person could be seen being moved on a stretcher as emergency personnel administered CPR in the afternoon.

A 911 caller had reported around 1 p.m. that the suspect, in a rental unit at a residential complex at Cedar Street and Sixth Avenue, was making threats, Officer John Buttle said.

Gunfire erupted during a subsequent confrontation between the suspect and officers, Buttle said.

Firefighters also were called in to extinguish a small blaze believed to have been set by the suspect in a fourth-floor apartment, officials said.

The suspect, whose name and age were not released, was taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds of undisclosed severity.  No other injuries were reported.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation under the terms of a 2022 countywide agreement on officer- or deputy-involved shootings.
