Chapelboro.com’s coverage of Carolina baseball in the Men’s College World Series is proudly presented by High & Rubish Insurance Agency.
The Diamond Heels fell one win short of a national title at the College World Series, as Carolina’s pitching and offense fizzled in the final game against Oklahoma, 13-2.
After the last game of the entire college baseball season, UNC followers and fan accounts took to social media to share their reactions to the game and support for the program — which experienced its highest win total in a season (54) since reaching 56 wins in 2013. That included figures like UNC Athletic Director Steve Newmark and North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein alongside hundreds of other Tar Heels. Losing a rubber match with a national championship on the line was tough for many users to grapple with, but many shared their gratitude for the 2026 Diamond Heels players and passion for the program — as well as a few jokes.
Here are some of the highlights from social media on Monday night and the aftermath of the game.
Not the ending any of us wanted. But it was one heck of a ride to get here.

Very proud of @DiamondHeels and @CoachForbes_UNC for an incredible season. Not the outcome we wanted, but only going to make us stronger. Proud to wear Carolina Blue today and every day. #GoHeels t.co/qnNaZlMcx5

Damn. Not the outcome we were hoping for. Baseball Heels had an incredible season and playoffs. Just ran into a Sooner buzz saw.
Congrats, Kevin. You’ll get some good NC BBQ to enjoy. Well-earned. t.co/eok3oedxyu

Oklahoma wins its 9th game over a national seed, the most by any team in a single NCAA Baseball Tournament.
An all-time run by the Sooners.

Props to Oklahoma. Don’t think anyone could’ve stopped this team. Glad we got a game on this team the way they’re playing.

as a sicko who watches midweeks in February…this was a fun group to watch come together. UNC will get over this hump eventually.

We didn’t lose because of an umpire or even close to it. But I would have preferred not to have seen the ump wearing an OU shirt in a picture on Facebook.

Not letting a relief pitcher throw his warm up pitches in the National Title Game? t.co/alahaG1OzP

Much like the 2016 bball team, I wanted the natty for these players who have been outstanding representatives of our school. Thank you for the ride @DiamondHeels.

As I sit in the airport this morning heartbroken and holding back tears, I can only imagine how this team feels to come up just one win short?
But as always, they carry themselves with class and deserve nothing but the best. Thank you for the ride @DiamondHeels ? t.co/mvmKjfcNT6
