Even though Bobby Finke swam his usual distance-oriented lineup, his weekend was tougher than normal. Having prelims and finals of the 1,650 meant he swam the final of the 1,650 in the same session as the final of the 400 IM. He would end up swimming a 15:08 in the 1,650 (2nd) and 4:26 in the 400 IM (8th). However, Finke did bounce back on the last night, swimming a gutsy race in the 800 free final and using his patented closing speed to touch 1st in 7:56.
After the meet, Finke vowed (hoped) that this would be the last 1,650/400 IM double in his career.
