News by : (Times of San Diego) -

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ (NATAS) Pacific Southwest chapter (PSW) will honor six TV industry professionals at its Gold and Silver Circle induction ceremony on June 26 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines Hotel.

Doug Friedman and Joe Smith will be honored as Gold Circle inductees. The Gold Circle honors distinguished professionals who have dedicated more than 50 years to the TV industry and made lasting contributions to the PSW chapter.

Four individuals, including Scott Health, Steven Luke, Jeff Martin and Luis “Pollo” Aceves, will be recognized as Silver Circle inductees based on their 25-years-plus of excellence, leadership, mentorship and impact in TV and in the community. Silver Circle honorees also must have made a significant contribution to the PSW chapter for a majority of their 25-year careers.

According to NATAS, here is a summary of the 2026 honorees’ careers:

Doug Friedman’s career began at KTLA in 1976 and has spanned creative services, syndication, marketing, community service and leadership. His contributions to regional television include work with stations across San Diego, Las Vegas, Palm Springs and Santa Barbara, along with years of service to NATAS PSW as governor, Gold and Silver Circle committee chair and NATAS PSW Foundation chair. Joe Smith’s broadcasting career began in 1965 at WWLP-TV in Springfield, Mass. Across nearly six decades, his career has taken him through public affairs, children’s programming, business reporting, anchoring, producing, mentoring and community service in markets across the country, including Las Vegas and Palm Springs. His colleagues describe him not only as a talented journalist but also as a generous mentor and a deeply kind human being. Scott Heath has spent 40 years with KSWB-TV Fox 5 San Diego, now part of Nexstar Broadcasting, serving in leadership roles from account executive to regional sales manager, general sales manager and currently VP and general manager of Fox 5 and KUSI-TV. His leadership has supported a major local news operation, extensive live sports programming and major community events, including the July 4th Big Bay Boom fireworks display. Steven Luke began his career at KPBS-TV in 1998 and has spent more than two decades serving San Diego viewers, most prominently at KNSD-TV NBC 7 San Diego. His work has included sports, reporting, anchoring, Olympic coverage, long-form specials, live reporting, writing and community storytelling. He has earned numerous PSW Emmy Awards and is known by colleagues for his creativity, humility, kindness and integrity. Jeff Martin began his career in 1979 at KECI-TV in Missoula, Mont., and has been part of KEYT-TV in Santa Barbara since 1984. As creative services director, he has played a central role in live coverage of major local events, including Old Spanish Days and the Unity Telethon. His work has supported local nonprofits, public service campaigns, and community traditions across Santa Barbara for decades. Luis Aceves began his career with Televisa in the early 1990s and has spent more than three decades as a host, producer, performer and community leader. His work includes more than 35 television programs, collaborations with more than 80 commercial brands, and a long commitment to bilingual and multicultural storytelling. He has also served NATAS PSW as a board member, judge, committee participant and liaison for Spanish-speaking members.

Danny “DJ” Summitt Jr., NATAS PSW 2026 president, told Times of San Diego, “We are deeply honored to induct our 2026 class into the Gold and Silver Circle. These honors recognize more than longevity. They recognize a lifetime of service, mentorship, leadership, and meaningful contribution to the television industry and to the communities we serve.

“Each of these honorees helped shape the Pacific Southwest television landscape in their own way, across news, creative services, production, sales, public affairs, multicultural storytelling and community service. Their careers remind us that television is built not only by what appears on screen, but by the people who commit themselves, year after year, to making the work stronger and more human. We are proud to celebrate them and grateful for the legacy they continue to leave for the next generation.”

The group will present its 2026 Emmy Awards the next evening, June 27, at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines Hotel.

With nearly 700 members, the PSW chapter represents and serves TV professionals in California and Nevada markets including San Diego, Bakersfield, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura.

Jack in the Box offers World-Cup inspired streetwear, headgear

San Diego-based Jack in the Box, Inc. (JITB), as part of its year-long 75th anniversary celebration, is joining the insanely, patriotic World Cup vibe with the introduction of soccer-inspired apparel in collaboration with Los Angeles-based streetwear brand The Hundreds.

The apparel includes a retro-inspired Jack Jersey in either purple or white and a collectible Team Jack white-and-purple baseball cap. The collection is available at TheHundreds.com while supplies last.

It’s JITB’s second, 75th-anniversary-related apparel collaboration with the Hundreds. Earlier this year, The Hundreds offered a T-shirt, sweatshirt and trucker hat featuring an Adam Bomb graphic using the mascot Jack’s signature face and stamped with the phrase “Jack Was Here!” The Adam Bomb character is a cartoon-style depiction of a bomb with a lit fuse, often illustrated with a mischievous expression, which is popular in skateboarding, hip-hop, punk and street culture, according to JITB.

“For 75 years, Jack in the Box has always found ways to show up in culture beyond the drive-thru,” said Sheena Dougher, VP of brand marketing at Jack in the Box. “The response to our first collaboration with The Hundreds made it clear that fans are hungry for new ways to connect with us. This next drop lets us tap into a community rooted in passion, identity and self-expression. Soccer culture has always had this incredible connection to style and fandom, and we loved bringing that together with Jack’s signature irreverence and The Hundreds’ point of view.”

“Growing up in California, soccer culture was always bigger than the game itself, it was style, attitude, community and belonging,” said Ben Hundreds, co-founder of The Hundreds. “This collection takes that feeling and filters it through the worlds of Jack and The Hundreds. We wanted these pieces to feel like something you’d wear to a match, a watch party or a late-night food run and still feel like part of the same club.”

The World Cup, watched by billions of people, is considered the biggest sporting event in the world.

JITB (NASDAQ: JACK), one of the nation’s largest hamburger chains, operates 2,218 restaurants across 24 states, Guam and Mexico.
