Cross Him Off the List: Cam Jordan is Returning to the New Orleans Saints ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Cam Jordan would have been a sensible addition to the Chicago Bears defensive line.

A veteran edge rusher who could have paired with Montez Sweat and teamed with Austin Booker to provide a formidable collection of defensive ends for a team looking to make some noise in the NFC would have been a welcome sight at Halas Hall. Unfortunately, it just isn’t meant to be.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport has the scoop on Jordan’s return to the New Orleans Saints:

The #Saints are bringing back one of their franchise greats, as eight-time Pro Bowl DE Cam Jordan is set to return, sources say. The two sides are putting the finishing touches on a 1-year, incentive-laden deal during his visit today. pic.twitter.com/8dU9cf1QkV

REPORT: Cam Jordan is going back to the Saints

If you’ve been poking your head around here throughout the offseason, then you are familiar with why we thought Cam Jordan would be a good fit for the 2026 Chicago Bears. We first discussed it in March while browsing through free agent lists. The idea made sense on so many levels. However, we probably should have known that it wasn’t in the cards when Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen — who coached Jordan while with the Saints — threw cold water on the dream while meeting with the media in May at Halas Hall.

The news of Cam Jordan’s return is a bit of a bummer. A Bears defense that could use another impact player in the trenches sees another high-profile name go off the board. Maybe this front office truly believes in Montez Sweat will continue to play at a high level. Perhaps a breakout year from Austin Booker is on the horizon. It isn’t inconceivable that Grady Jarrett bounces back from an injury-plagued first season in Chicago. And I suppose that someone could emerge from the depth battle to be a pleasant surprise for the Bears.

With that being said, I hope wishcasting isn’t the team’s philosophy for defensive improvement in 2026. Because if it is, it might be an uphill battle as Chicago’s football team goes about trying to win a second consecutive NFC North title.
