ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Nearly three million eligible homeowners in New York will get over $2 billion in tax relief this summer and fall.
Governor Kathy Hochul’s Office says the tax relief comes through New York’s School Tax Relief (STAR) program. The program offers property tax relief to eligible homeowners and seniors statewide.
Hochul says most homeowners eligible for a STAR credit will get a check between $350 and $600. She also says most seniors eligible for an enhanced STAR credit will get a check between $700 and $1,500.
In the Finger Lakes region, about $193.7 million will be given out in STAR tax relief. Hochul says around 274,000 homeowners are eligible for STAR benefits in the region.
Checks have started to be delivered statewide, according to Hochul. She also says eligible homeowners registered for the STAR program will get their check before the deadline for their school taxes. See the delivery schedule by clicking here.
Don’t want a check? Homeowners can also enroll in the STAR Direct Deposit program. Those looking to use direct deposit are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible to make sure they get their credit by the end of the year, Hochul says.
