ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills teamed up at ESL Ballpark for the Greg Rousseau Charity Softball Game, raising more than $400,000 for charity.
In front of a Rochester crowd, the Bills swung for the fences at ESL Ballpark, or at least tried to.
“Swing your swing. If it works it works. And he sent one out here,” Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid said of defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis’ swing.
Mathis admittedly did get one out in the home run derby and added a solo homer and single in the actual game. Though that performance pales in comparison to Kincaid’s derby win and four-for-four day with four homers at the plate. The Bills announced that Kincaid was the first person to ever hit four homers in one game at ESL Ballpark. What’s tougher: hitting a homer in slow-pitch softball or in AAA baseball?
“You kind of do have to find the groove. Once you’re in it, I think it’s just like a flow state so it was a lot of fun,” Kincaid said.
The actual game pitted offense against defense with the offense coming out on top, 24-16.
“Defense takes the L two years in a row. You got [Dalton Kincaid] out there going four and four, making history. It was a fun day overall,” Bills running back Ray Davis, who hit a home run in the win, said.
The offense actually led 24-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth, and final, inning when the two sides decided to make every one run count as six to make the ending more suspenseful. After a pair of solo shots, Ray Davis lunged forward, catching a Dee Alford bunt, for the final out of the game.
“You know, some call me the closer. Some call me the chosen one. I don’t know which one it is, but whatever you want to call me, I’m always going to end the game. That’s how it goes,” Davis said.
Davis even donned a “Bruce the Bat Dog” shirt for the latter half of the game.
“Yes. Oh my God. It was good luck when I put the shirt on,” Davis said. “Bruce is coming out here, he’s really doing the hard work. Do you realize how many times we swung and miss? Or how many times a bat was just all over the place? Shoutout to Bruce.”

According to Rousseau and the event’s spokesperson, more than $400,000 was raised for charity. Of the money raised, $300,000 went to Greg Rousseau’s family foundation while $10,000 dollars each went to 10 other players’ charities in attendance.
“It’s a blessing to be a blessing, like when God gives you opportunities to go out there and help excel other people and be able to bring people together, you take it and run with it. So I’m just trying to keep on doing that, keep doing God’s work and keep on building that bond with our team,” Rousseau said.
The Bills will return to Rochester next month for training camp.
