IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — Two people are dead after a house fire on Carol Drive on Sunday morning.

News10NBC’s Declan Stablow went to check out the aftermath and spoke to the local fire department about its response. Neighbors told him they saw black smoke billowing from the house and said the victims were an older couple.
Investigators have not released the identity of the two people killed. Officials are waiting for family to be notified before releasing the names of the victims.
Damage is visible on the side of the house. There’s also a pile of debris on the front yard.
The Saint Paul Boulevard Fire Department said it responded a little bit after 7:30 a.m. Chief Ken Stavalone said flames were coming from a bedroom window when crews arrived.
Firefighters were able to get inside and get the fire under control within 10 minutes but said they couldn’t save the two victims. Stavalone said it’s difficult when crews start the day this way.
“The first thing we do is we sit down. We do an after action report to talk about the incident and what happened, and to see if anyone needs any extra help. But, I can tell you our hearts really go out to these victims and their families because obviously this is the worst day for our fire department, and we hate to see a tragedy, such as this, Stavalone explained.
The Saint Paul Boulevard Fire Department couldn’t share any information about how the fire started. The chief said several other departments responded as well.
