Winter Juniors qualifier Wyatt Sylvester has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at Dartmouth College beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Dartmouth College! I want to thank my family for their constant love and support throughout this journey. I also want to thank Coach Graham, Coach Amy, and Coach Matt for everything they have done for me. Your guidance has meant so much to me. Lastly, thank you to Coach Milana, Coach Blair, and the entire Dartmouth team for this amazing opportunity and for making Dartmouth feel like home. I can’t wait for this next chapter. GO BIG GREEN!
A junior at Lafayette High School in Virginia, Sylvester has competed for the school’s swimming and diving team since his freshman year. He also currently trains year-round with 757swim, where he specializes in the longer distances of freestyle, butterfly, and IM.
Sylvester is coming off a 2025-26 short course season that saw him have some monumental time drops:

He was the runner-up in both IM events at the Senior Championships, his best-ever placements at the meet, and did not finish outside of the top ten in any of his individual races.
On the high school scene, Sylvester has been a key contributor for Lafayette at the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 4 State Championships. This past season, he picked up a pair of bronze medals in the 200 IM and 500 free, and helped the 200 free relay to third and the 400 free relay to sixth. He was third in the same events at the Class 3 meet in 2025, and fifth in the 500 free and sixth in the 200 free in his freshman year, meaning he’s never missed a championship final at the competition.
Sylvester competed at the Winter Junior Championships for the first time this past season; he finished 43rd in the 400 IM, 69th in the 200 fly, 82nd in the 200 breast, and 133rd in the 200 IM at the East location.
A Division I program, Dartmouth competes in the Ivy League Conference, with the men’s team taking seventh out of eight teams at this past season’s conference championships. Sylvester’s current career best in the 400 IM would have landed him in the ‘B’ final, while it took times of 1:40.38/4:27.23/15:37.29 in the freestyles, 1:47.01 in the 200 fly, and 1:48.07 in the 200 IM to earn a second swim.
Sylvester joins Patrick Dunn, Brian He, and Alex Allocco in committing to Dartmouth’s class of 2031 so far.
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
