Over the past weeks, four prospects in the 2026 NBA Draft have clearly separated themselves from the rest of the class. BYU forward AJ Dybantsa, Kansas guard Darryn Peterson, Duke power forward Cameron Boozer, and North Carolina power forward Caleb Wilson have emerged as the top four, with a gap between them and the rest of the class.
With the Bulls owning the Nos. 4 and 15 overall picks in the 2026 NBA Draft, some recent reports of prospects getting private workouts with the Bulls became increasingly intriguing.
Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report reported this week that the Bulls worked out Arkansas guard Darius Acuff, a projected top-10 lottery pick. Acuff is a solid prospect — considered the top guard in the class by some — but… still, he isn’t a top-four pick.
Earlier this week we discussed reports that the Bulls also worked out Illinois shooting guard Keaton Wagler, Houston guard Kingston Flemings, Tennessee forward Nate Ament and Michigan big man Morez Johnson Jr.
It’s possible none of these players makes it to the Bulls’ second pick in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft.
Which begs the question: why are the Bulls working out guys who will likely be picked between 5 and 14 overall? Certainly the Bulls won’t trade down from No. 4 overall… right? Could the Bulls be working to move up from that No. 15 spot to add another lottery pick to accelerate their rebuild?

A 6-foot-3, 190-pound combo guard, Acuff was a consensus All-American during his one-and-done collegiate season. He was honored as the 2026 Player of the Year for his efforts in pushing John Calipari’s Razorbacks to a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament, a 28-9 overall record, and an eventual Sweet Sixteen run.
He notched impressive averages of 23.5 points on .484/.440/.809 shooting splits, 6.4 dimes, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.8 steals a night during his 2025-26 freshman season.

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) June 5, 2026The Bulls aren’t the only early lottery team to host Acuff since the Combine. Per Brian Lewis of the New York Post and David J. Smith of Salt City Hoops, Acuff has already worked out for the Utah Jazz and Brooklyn Nets, owners of the Nos. 2 and 6 picks, respectively, this year.
Chicago EVP of basketball operations Bryson Graham doesn’t seem locked in to the concept of $100 million man Josh Giddey as his long-term starting point guard. Acuff’s defensive upside appears to be more in line with Graham’s vision for the role, but Graham would likely need to make a deal for the pick.
We can add Acuff to the intriguing list of names the Bulls have hosted who seemingly aren’t in play at No. 4 and aren’t likely to be available at No. 15. There’s a lot of smoke around the Bulls’ new front office as we get closer to the 2026 NBA Draft.
