Cincinnati has announced two coaching changes for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. Scott Stern has been promoted from assistant to associate head coach. The staff has also added Masy Folcik as an assistant.
Stern takes over the position previously held by Joey Ferreri, who was elevated to head coach at the end of April after former head coach Mandy Commons-DiSalle announced her retirement in March. Stern has spent the last three seasons at Cincinnati.
“I am excited to announce the promotion of Scott Stern to Associate Head Coach. Scott has been instrumental in the success of our program throughout his time at Cincinnati. His tireless work ethic, loyalty and commitment to our student-athletes has made a huge impact on our teams success. Scott embodies the values of our program and is a great reflection of what it means to be a Bearcat. I am incredibly grateful to have him by my side as we enter this new era of Cincinnati Swimming & Diving!” said Ferreri.
Prior to arriving at Cincinnati, Stern spent one season as a volunteer with Kentucky in 2022-2023. Stern spent his collegiate career at Fordham from 2017-2021 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing before going on to earn a master’s in sports administration from Northwestern in 2022.
Folcik arrives at Cincinnati as an assistant coach after spent this past season a volunteer assistant with Aquinas College in Michigan. There she helped with all athletes and primarily specialized in assisting with the breaststroke group.
“I am excited to welcome Masy Folcik to our staff. Masy is a passionate coach and natural leader who will make an immediate impact on our program. Her background in kinesiology and psychology, combined with her experience as a high-level athlete and coach, will be a tremendous asset to our student-athletes and program as whole. I am confident she will play a significant role in our continued success moving forward.” said Ferreri.
Folcik was a breaststroker during her collegiate career, which she spent at Purdue from 2020-2025. She scored at Big Tens in all five of her season with the Boilermakers and swam at both 2020(1) and 2024 US Olympic Trials. She graduated from Purdue in 2025 with a degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Psychology. She also is passionate about fitness and holistic athlete development which has helped shape her coaching philosophy both in and out of the pool.
The Cincinnati women finished 4th out of 10 teams at the 2026 Big 12 Championships while the men’s team finished 6th out of seven programs. The women were led by senior Joleigh Crye who swam to a conference title in the 100 breast with a 58.02. Crye also defended her title in the process as she won the event in 2025. Her Big 12 win in 2025 marked Cincinnati’s first ever swimmer to win a Big 12 title. Crye made the NCAA Championships in all four seasons with the Bearcats.
