Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar have discussed ways to expand cooperation in the energy and mining sectors during a meeting held on the sidelines of Baku Energy Week in the Azerbaijani capital.
The meeting followed discussions held between the two Ministers in Istanbul in April.
The two Ministers stressed the importance of elevating bilateral cooperation and achieving a qualitative shift in relations in the energy and mining sectors through greater collaboration between government institutions, specialized companies and private-sector entities in both countries.
They also explored prospects for expanding Turkish investments in Egypt’s mining industry, particularly following the decision by Turkish company OZ Mining to study gold exploration opportunities in Egypt’s Eastern Desert.
Their talks further covered collaboration in technical expertise, best practices and modern technologies aimed at supporting development plans, attracting investments and increasing the added value of natural resources.
Both Ministers underscored the significance of enhancing regional cooperation in the energy sector in the eastern Mediterranean, building on the strategic advantages, infrastructure and geographic positions of both Egypt and Turkey to support energy security, regional integration and mutual interests.
