A man was arrested and charged after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in a forest preserve in Chicago, authorities announced on Saturday.
John G. Lang, a 45-year-old man who Forest Preserves of Cook County Police said has no address on file, is facing charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated battery with strangulation after he allegedly attacked a 29-year-old woman while she was walking in LaBagh Woods around 12:30 p.m. on May 23.
The assault occurred off trail in a heavily wooded area on the eastern side of the preserve, roughly 500 feet from a parking lot.
He was ordered to be held without bail at a bond hearing on Saturday, authorities said.
“This was a shocking incident, even more so because of the relative rarity of such attacks in the Forest Preserves. The safety of our visitors is the highest priority for the Forest Preserves, and the work by our Police Department to solve this case shows our commitment to that goal,” said Adam Bianchi, the General Superintendent of the Forest Preserves of Cook County.
