After storming to a fourth consecutive victory at the Canadian Grand Prix, the Mercedes sensation has established what is becoming an increasingly imposing advantage at the top of the Drivers' standings.
Yet while rivals, fans and the media debate whether the title race is already tilting decisively in his favour, Antonelli remains determined to keep his eyes fixed firmly on the next corner rather than the championship trophy.
His triumph in Montreal added to an extraordinary sequence of victories stretching back through China, Japan and Miami, while a costly technical failure for team-mate George Russell helped transform a close contest into a sizeable 43-point gap.
No 'easing off' - a race by race focus
With Formula 1 now heading into a relentless European stretch packed with races, Antonelli's rivals face mounting pressure to halt the momentum of a driver who appears to be getting stronger with every weekend.
But the championship leader insists there will be no easing off.
"Yeah, but to be fair, I’m not thinking about the championship. I’m just focusing on race by race,” the young Italian said in Montreal.
"I think it’s still very early to talk about that, and of course, now I have this gap, but that doesn’t mean I can relax and just take it easier. Instead, I need to keep levelling up and keep raising the bar, because it’s not going to be easy.
"Competitors are getting closer, and also George is super quick, so definitely I’m just going to try to focus on myself and enjoy the driving, and trying to really drive as fast as possible."
Those words may sound cautious, but they also reveal the mindset that has propelled the teenager to the summit of Formula 1. While others might be tempted to manage a championship lead, Antonelli is still operating like a hunter rather than the hunted.
Russell duel signals what lies ahead
The growing points gap has not come without resistance. Before Russell's retirement in Montreal, the Mercedes team-mates were engaged in another fierce battle, continuing a rivalry that had already spilled over from an intense Sprint contest earlier in the weekend.
Antonelli admitted the fight pushed both drivers to the limit.
"It was a tough fight," he commented. "I think a couple of times [it] was maybe a little bit on the edge, but we were going at each other. We were both pushing and we both wanted to win.
"It was, I think, for everyone watching, pretty entertaining, so definitely the stint was a lot of fun, because we were both pushing on the limit and going for it."
That battle could prove to be a preview of what awaits in the second half of the season. While Antonelli currently enjoys breathing room in the standings, Russell remains one of the fastest drivers on the grid and is unlikely to surrender the fight quietly.
Mercedes still searching for answers despite dominance
If Antonelli's winning streak is grabbing headlines, Mercedes' unbeaten start to the 2026 campaign is generating just as much intrigue.
The team's substantial upgrade package introduced in Montreal appeared to reinforce its position at the front of the field, prompting questions about whether the Silver Arrows have unlocked another level of performance.
Yet even after victory, Antonelli remains unconvinced that Mercedes fully understands the true impact of its latest developments.
"To be fair, we’re not really clear on the package, if I’m being honest, because this weekend was very weird in terms of tyres," he explained.
"It was very difficult to put them in the right window, so I think that was playing a big factor. Just by having the tyre in the right window was helping a lot.
"I think we will have a better picture of the package in the next few races."
That uncertainty may be an ominous warning for the rest of the field.
