User Experience
When I first opened the box, I took all the pieces out to make sure I wasn’t missing anything and then I reviewed the instructions. If you’ve ever put a floor lamp together, the design will feel familiar. It’s a pretty standard assembly process. You just line the rods up together and twist them together. The power cable that goes to the light, drops through the hollow rods and the weighted base. Then, it connects to the power adapter. From unboxing to first use, it takes about 15 minutes or less. The instructions were easy to understand and even connecting to the light to the app and Matter was straightforward.
The lantern produces a soft, pleasant glow that creates warm, inviting tone in the room. Its overall brightness is strong, but because of the globe shape and built in diffusion, it’s still a very soft glow. Personally, I feel that the lamp leans more toward accent lighting than functional lighting although it can work for both. The color accuracy and the range between warm and cool tones are very good, which offers a wide variety of moods depending on the setting. The only issue I really had was the power cord length, which is approximately six feet. In my setup, I wanted to place the lamp at one end of the couch and route the cord underneath it, and it just barely reached a power strip on the opposite side.
I’ve found the app experience to be very easy overall. Since the lamp supports Matter, I was able to connect it to Apple Home without any problems and control it right away. The only thing that takes a little getting used to is the huge number of lighting scenes in the Govee app. The scene names are descriptive, but it can still be hard to know exactly what a color combination or effect will look like until you actually turn it on.
Changing colors, brightness, and scenes is quick and simple through the Govee app. Apple Home works well too, but it’s more limited since it only lets me switch between solid colors. If I want to use the more advanced animated scenes and effects, I have to jump back into the Govee app. Voice assistant support has also worked reliably for me, with commands responding consistently during testing. Setting everything up through Matter was smooth as well. Govee includes the pairing code right in the device settings page, so all I had to do was enter it into Apple Home and everything connected without any hassle.
In day-to-day use, this lamp has honestly been a great addition to our living room. It adds a lot of ambience and personality to the space without feeling distracting or over the top. It blends in naturally and just makes the room feel more comfortable and inviting, whether I’m using a soft warm glow or one of the more colorful scenes. We’ve ended up using it the most in the evenings while winding down and watching TV, where the softer lighting really helps create a cozy atmosphere.
