A 17-year-old boy was found dead in a suburban forest preserve after his father reported him missing earlier this week, authorities said.
Homewood police said they were contacted about a missing person report around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, when a father said he was concerned for the well-being of his 17-year-old son, who was last known to be in the area of the Homewood Izaak Walton Preserve.
Police said they began a search of the forest preserve, bringing in a drone and K-9 unit from Country Club Hills to help “due to the expansive area and tree cover.”
At around 7:30 p.m., police said the teen was found unconscious. First responders performed life-saving measures, but were unable to revive him.
The teen was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
Authorities said a death investigation is underway, with the cause and manner of death pending autopsy and toxicology results.
“There is no indication of any danger to the community as it pertains to this case,” police said.
