Alabama baseball to host NCAA Regional for first time under Rob Vaughn ...Middle East

News by : (The Crimson White) -

Alabama baseball has been announced as the No. 7 seed and will host an NCAA Regional for the first time under head coach Rob Vaughn, in his third year at the helm, and for the 29th time in program history.

As a top-8 national seed, the Crimson Tide would also host a Super Regional if they win the Tuscaloosa Regional. The Crimson Tide will be hosting Alabama State, USC Upstate and Oklahoma State beginning Friday.

This is the second time one of Vaughn’s squads will host a regional; Maryland hosted back in 2022. Vaughn’s message to Crimson Tide fans was clear.

“We need fans to show up,” Vaughn said. “We need it to be not just show up, but it’s like impact the game. And to be rowdy and reckless and all of the things that go into that. We need them here, we need him rowdy, we need them loud and we need them to impact winning and losing of the game.”

Just a month ago, the Crimson Tide had just lost two out of three games to Tennessee and was sitting at 10-11 in SEC play, facing an uphill battle to climb to earn a top-16 seed and host. However, the team responded by winning eight of their last nine SEC games, including back-to-back sweeps over Vanderbilt and South Carolina, to finish 18-12, their best finish in SEC play since 2009.

“I mean, I think this is as battle-tested a group as we’ve had,” Vaughn said. “This group has been through some hard times too, don’t forget.”

The Crimson Tide finished the season with a 37-19 record, No. 6 in RPI and with the No. 3 strength of schedule. They also swept teams such as No. 18 Florida and No. 6 Auburn, and took down No. 7 Oregon State en route to a Frisco Classic championship. The Crimson Tide also won its series against No. 17 Ole Miss and at the time No. 11 Oklahoma.

In Quad 1 games, the Crimson Tide went 15-15, tied with the SEC champions, No. 4 Georgia, for the fourth-most Q1 wins in the nation.

The Crimson Tide will begin its Omaha run on Friday, with the first pitch against Alabama State slated for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+. The regional will run in a two-game elimination format, and if necessary, run through Monday.

“They’re ready for what lies in front of them next week,” Vaughn said. “This group has responded better than any group I’ve ever coached.”
