ALBANY, N.Y. — Will the next Winter Olympics be in New York? Gov. Kathy Hochul is trying to make it happen.
Hochul told The New York Times there’s “sincere political ambition” and “significant” meetings being held to bring the Winter Games to the Empire State, specifically New York City and Lake Placid. In February, News10NBC Chief Investigative Reporter Berkeley Brean spoke to state Assemblyman Robert Carroll, who’s also advocating for New York to host.
Carroll went to the last Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina to see firsthand how it’s done.
“This is the first time two cities are hosting a games. So I think it’s a great opportunity to say – what does that feels like? What does that look like? Logistically how does that happen?” Carroll said.
David Leggio, who played for Team USA hockey in the 2018 Olympics, said he thinks it would be a great fit.
“Obviously all the infrastructure is there. I’m sure they could figure out the housing and lodging and all that but I think it would be awesome,” Leggio said.

The last time New York hosted the Winter Olympics was in 1980. Those games are remembered for the “Miracle on Ice,” when the underdog U.S. men’s hockey team defeated the Soviet Union.
