Why Cowboys should monitor A.J. Brown situation, other potential post-June 1 moves ...Middle East

News by : (TOP world News today) -

June 1 is the next important date on the NFL calendar. Teams around the league will have this date circled as it allows for players to be cut or traded with their dead money being spread out between the 2026 and 2027 seasons instead of eating the full cost. This salary-cap saving tool could be utilized for several organizations looking to become more financially flexible.

One such organization is the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s the worst kept secret the league Philadelphia plans on trading their All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Brown post-June 1. By doing so the Eagles can save quite a bit of money as well as acquire what should be some significant draft capital for the future. This move, among others, should be something the Dallas Cowboys monitor closely.

As far as Brown is concerned, the Cowboys are in no way interested in acquiring his services. The only interest they should have in the All-Pro WR is the fact the move would weaken a division rival and potentially help aid in learning George Pickens’ trade value. While Jerry Jones and Company have been adamant about not being interested in trading Pickens, at least not this year, it’s important information they can tuck away for the future.

The Cowboys have the ability to place a franchise tag on George Pickens once again next year if they so choose. By doing that, they could feasibly use this tool to trade him away for future draft capital. By learning Brown’s trade value and applying it to what the Denver Broncos sent the Miami Dolphins for WR Jalen Waddle, Dallas could more accurately determine what they could receive by trading away Pickens.

While the Brown situation is the more interesting post-June 1 move the Cowboys and the rest of the league will be monitoring, there are others Dallas could be keeping an eye out for as well. It’s probably safe to say they won’t be making any trades post-June 1, but it can be completely ruled out either. It is much more likely however they could sign a player who was cut post-June 1.

The Cowboys might be looking to upgrade the backup running back position behind Javonte Williams. Alvin Kamara and Tony Pollard have been rumored to be potential post-June 1 cuts. Either one would be significant upgrades to what they currently have on the roster if they are indeed made available. LB Patrick Queen is also rumored to be a post-June cut. He’s someone Dallas showed an interest in trading for earlier this offseason.

While there will no doubt be several players made available post-June 1 around the league, it remains to be seen whether or not the Cowboys will make any significant additions. We do believe however they will be monitoring things and if someone they believe could upgrade their roster becomes available they won’t hesitate to do what’s best for the organization by bringing them aboard.

Who would you like for the team to still sign among possible post-June 1 cuts or current free agents?
