ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Jeneral Shelton, an eighth grader at Bird/Morgan School in East Rochester, is being honored for helping a school bus driver who was breaking up a fight.
Jeneral is among this year’s recipients of the Do the Right Thing awards. Last fall, he was on the school bus when a fight broke out. The driver was trying to break up the fight when Jeneral noticed that two students needed help. He stepped in by grabbing the driver’s phone and calling the dispatcher for assistance.
“It was really surprising. I didn’t even know it was going to happen. That’s why I immediately tried my best to help,” he said.
Jeneral’s teacher described him as a hard worker who listens attentively during class and loves to help others.
Any student in grades K-12 in a Monroe County school is eligible for a nomination. The good deed must have occurred within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form, including family, friends, school staff, and coaches.
