ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We’re back to Green on the Threat Tracker as storms dissipated overnight, but as a cold front passes through this morning we are still dealing with some residual light showers and will see temperatures drop rapidly. Morning temperatures across the region are very mild, in the low 70s, but will fall to the upper 50s by 9am. We’ll rebound a tiny bit into the low 60s later in the afternoon, but still a cooler day overall especially compared to the summer-like temps over the past few days. A cool northwest breeze will also be felt around 10-15 MPH with gusts up to 20 MPH.
Our cooldown continues tomorrow, with temperatures returning to a more mid-April feel in the upper 50s. We’ll be dry however, and should see some decent sun.
Temperatures climb back into the mid 60s for Friday and again we stay dry, but clouds will increase throughout the day which is indicative of what we can expect for Memorial Day Weekend.
Unfortunately the unofficial start of summer is looking very wet. A warm front will approach from the south, bringing a steady, soaking rain for pretty much all of Saturday. 1-2″ of rain are possible, which means there is a marginal chance of flooding. Stay tuned for updates on rainfall amounts and flood potential, but know that we are still Green on the Threat Tracker. Highs will be in the upper 50s. The wind will be back as well, this time out of the southeast with gusts up to 25 MPH.
Sunday and Memorial Day we will transition to pop-up showers as opposed to a steady rain as an upper level trough moves north of the Great Lakes. These showers could tack on an additional few tenths of an inch to our weekend rain totals. It will be warmer though, with both days possibly reaching the low 70s, so in between the showers things will still be damp but more tolerable out.
Time for some good news: We anticipate very nice conditions to develop for the second half of next week which could even last into early June, as multiple bouts of high pressure come down from Canada. There is still time for this forecast to change, but right now it is looking dry and fair with temperatures in the low to mid 70s and very comfortable humidity. Here’s hoping that pattern overstays its welcome.
Stay tuned for updates on the forecast.
