PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll got up and sprinted home after getting whacked in the head — without his helmet — by a throw from San Francisco Giants second baseman Luis Arraez in the first inning on Tuesday.
Carroll scored on the little league home run, ruled a triple, after grabbing his head on impact. He had no time to process what had just happened to him, following the immediate instruction to go, go, go.

Carroll went back into the game on defense after having initially looked shaken by the play.
Against Giants right-hander Landen Roupp, Carroll crushed a pitch to deep left-center field, ideal triples territory for him. He turned on the jets around first base after losing his helmet and would have slid safely into third had the throw been on target.
The throw looked to have plunked him right on the top of the head, and Arraez was charged with an error.
Corbin Carroll nears Diamondbacks’ triples record
That was Carroll’s 49th career triple, as he is closing in on Stephen Drew’s franchise record of 52.
Carroll leads Major League Baseball with six triples this season, as nobody in the National League entered Tuesday with more than three.
