Investigators with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office recently made an unusual recovery, finding an estimated $1.5 million worth of stolen laptops, authorities said.
The sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post its Organized Retail Crime Unit received information on Thursday that a 53-foot trailer, which was reported stolen earlier in the week in Bridgeview, may be near North Austin Avenue and West Dakin Street in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood.
Sheriff’s deputies later located the trailer and discovered the laptops inside. Investigators also learned the truck attached to the trailer had been reported stolen.
The incident remained under investigation as of Monday evening.
