As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 progresses into its final leg, the tournament has once again garnered controversy over black marketing of tickets. A report has claimed that there was black marketing of tickets once again this season following which the Delhi Police has began its probe. While the incident comes days after Delhi Capitals (DC)’s game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, what has been shocking is that it even saw involvement of top official from the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

As per a report citing The Indian Express, four people have been arrested by the Delhi Police after a potential involvement of a top official of the DDCA. Three people – identified as Mukeem (35), Gurfan (36) and Md. Faisal (38) were arrested near the stadium premises while they sold complimentary passes, a petrol pump employee named Pankaj Yadav was also arrested later on after interrogations. Notably, as many as 1000 complimentary tickets were sold and some of them even were charged INR 80,000. 

Delhi Police issues notice to DDCA CEOs over alleged ticket black marketing

An unnamed source informed, “This was a very systematic racket with this DDCA official at the top. Depending on the star value of the game and players, the rates of the ticket would be decided. Closer to the start of the game, they would charge more.” He further added, “Before the RCB game, with Virat Kohli the major attraction, they charged at least Rs 80,000 for one ticket. We also learnt that the price ranged from Rs 8,000 to Rs 80,000, depending on the match and the demand.”

While the investigation continues, speaking of the ticket scenarios and its association with the cricket boards and the franchises, as per Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) norms, the local franchise provides 10-15% of each game’s tickets to the hosting association as complimentary passes. In this case, 1000 passes were distributed while the DDCA reportedly receives nearly 6000 complimentary passes for every game.
