2026 OPEN BELGIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Friday, May 15th – Sunday, May 17th Olympic Swimming Pool Wezenberg, Antwerp, Belgium LCM (50m) Meet Central Live Results Livestream

The 2026 Open Belgian Swimming Championships kicked off last night with swimmers vying not only for national titles but also for the chance to represent their nation at this year’s European Championships.

Making her presence known early on was 24-year-old Florine Gaspard, with the Short Course European Championships multi-medalist producing a time of 30.44 out of the heats of the women’s 50m breaststroke.

That checked in as a new lifetime best and Belgian national record en route to claiming the top seed, overtaking her previous Belgian standard of 30.44 notched in March of this year.

Gaspard left a little in the tank for last night’s final, lowering her newly minted national record down to 30.26 en route to gold.

That handily defeated the field, with Siel Verstrepen next to the wall nearly two seconds behind in 32.04, as Lies Gobert rounded out the podium in 32.64.

Gaspard now ties South Africa’s Lara van Niekerk to rank 5th in the world in this 50m breaststroke event.

Versatile Roos Vanotterdijk produced a dominant victory in the women’s 100m butterfly, stopping the clock at a powerful time of 56.74.

The 21-year-old who broke out last year with two medals at the World Championships opened in 26.28 and closed in 30.46 for the win, registering the 4th-best time of her career. Her swiftest performance remains at the 55.84, which brought her the silver last year in Singapore.

Georgian swimmer Ana Nizharadze touched behind Vanotterdijk last night in 59.41, with the Netherlands’ Evy Rozeboom bagging the bronze in 1:00.47.

Finally, on the women’s side, Sarah Dumont secured the win in the 200m free, posting a solid swim of 1:57.62, a monster new lifetime best for the Belgian.

Entering this competition, Dumont’s PB rested at the 1:58.38 put up for gold just this past March at the Flanders Swimming Cup.

She destroyed that previous outing with tonight’s effort to put Valentine Dumont‘s Belgian national record of 1:57.18 from 2023 on notice.

Siri Vanderlinden earned the silver in last night’s 2free final in 1:59.44, with Lana Ravelingien placing 3rd in 2:01.74.

Olympic medalist Caspar Corbeau of the Netherlands highlighted the men’s racing, with the former University of Texas Longhorn reaching the wall in 59.37 in the 100m breaststroke.

Corbeau opened in 27.68 and closed in 31.69 to get the job done, with a pair of Belgians capturing the minor medals.

Luks Baeten was the runner-up in 1:02.11, with Vranken Bartel earning bronze in 1:02.38.

Corbeau’s time checks in as a new season-best, erasing the 59.65 clocked at last month’s Malmsten Swim Open Stockholm. He now ranks 8th in the world.

Additional Notes

National record holder Lucas Henveaux proved too quick to catch in the men’s 400m free, registering a gold medal-worthy result of 3:51.30. That held off Dutchman Tiago Fonseca Gomes, who was next to the wall in 3:53.69, followed by Simon Laviolette who logged 3:55.89 for the bronze. The men’s 50m free saw the Netherlands’ Kenso Simons deliver the sole sub-22-second result of the pack. Simons hit 21.96 as the 10th-best time of his career. Vincent van Hooydonck touched in 22.29 and Perry Laarhoven nabbed 22.55, good enough for the bronze medal.
