Renuka Singh has been the backbone of India’s cricket team’s success in Women’s T20Is since she made her debut in October 2021. The 30-year-old has the fourth most wickets in the format among bowlers from full member nations. In the last four years, Renuka has been unplayable with the new ball.

Renuka Singh looks to find her swing

Earlier in the year, she was exceptional against the Australian women – 4 wickets at 6.36 economy. But the return to the format in South Africa in April was disastrous. Known for prodigious swing, Renuka failed to pick up one wicket in the powerplay. But she failed to move the ball in the air. In fact, she went wicketless in 3 matches.

With the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 just a month away, the Women in Blue will want Renuka to discover her old self. The quick realises something has gone herself.

“I practise every day, but it’s not like I swing the ball every time. I struggled a lot with my bowling when I played in South Africa. But now I have a time of 10-15 days to bring my swing back,” Renuka told PTI.

On June 8 in Cardiff, India will face the West Indies in a warm-up match, and Renuka is working hard to find her swing by then. Unable to identify the issue, she has been watching old clips of herself, hoping to replicate what was working for her earlier.

“When you don’t perform well, a lot of things do not work for you. I haven’t been able to swing [the ball] for some time, so I am trying to bring my swing back. I am checking my old videos to see what I used to do and hoping that it comes back.”

“I am working on my swing bowling since it is my strength. It is always beneficial for the team if the ball swings, and I can get two to three wickets at the top for the team. I back myself to bowl with the new ball, but since the same movement is not coming through, I am trying to work with the new ball to try and take wickets with it,” she added.
