ALBANY, N.Y. — Albany is one step closer to passing a bill to honor the sacrifice of an Army officer from LeRoy who died during the Vietnam War.
The State Senate passed a bill to rename part of Route 19 in LeRoy after Lt. Gary Scott. The road would become the “Lt. Gary A. Scott Memorial Highway” between South Lake Road and West Bergen Road.
Lt. Scott was a leader in the Screaming Eagles Airborne Division. On March 29, 1998, he was killed in an ambush while trying to rescue members of his platoon. The bill now goes to the State Assembly, before heading to the governor’s desk.
