A 16-year-old boy is recovering after going into cardiac arrest Monday night on the outdoor track of a northwest suburban high school, according to officials.
The incident unfolded about 7:20 p.m. in Huntley, with the fire protection district responding to reports of a cardiac arrest on the track at Huntley High School, a release from Battalion Chief Michael Pierce said.
Crews headed to the track were notified that CPR was in progress and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was on scene, the release said. Before they arrived, 911 dispatchers said the AED had been used and a shock had been delivered, and that the person had a pulse.
When Huntley emergency personnel arrived, they found the person, a 16-year-old boy, lying at the end of the track being tended to by an off-duty paramedic and Huntley High School staff.
The teen was transported to a nearby hospital and was last listed in stable condition, the release said.
Huntley High School did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
