Sabres drop game three in Montreal, trail 2-1 in second round series ...Middle East

News by : (News10NBC) -

The Sabres fall to the Canadiens, 6-2, in Montreal after surrendering three second-period goals. Buffalo now trails 2-1 in this best-of-seven second round series.

Tage Thompson found the back of the net less than a minute into the game to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead. But, the Canadiens followed that up with four-straight goals, a streak that began 15 minutes into the first with an Alex Newhook goal, making it 1-1, and that ended with a Juraj Slafkovsky power play finish 12 minutes into the second, to give Montreal a 4-1 lead. Cole Caufield scored a power play goal six minutes into the middle frame to make it 2-1 and Zack Bolduc scored at the 11-minute mark of the second to make it 3-1.

The Sabres responded with their own power play goal as Rasmus Dahlin found the back of the net for the second time these playoffs and cutting Buffalo’s deficit to 4-2.

That momentum was shortlived, however, as Montreal scored a breakaway goal from Kirby Dach to draw first blood in the third, followed by an empty-netter to complete the 6-2 thrashing.

In goal for Buffalo, Alex Lyon faced 36 shots, saving 31 for an .861 save percentage.

Game four in Montreal is set for Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm.
