ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Local flower shops say May is one of their busiest months of the year.
News10NBC’s Declan Stablow spoke to the owner of Arena’s on East Avenue about what makes this month so busy. The big event is Mother’s Day, but there are also high school and college graduations and some people are just inspired by the nice weather.
Charles Arena, the owner of Arena’s, says they have to limit the amount of orders they’re taking. He says he counts on a flurry of business each year around this time.
They track numbers from year to year to make sure they’re prepared. But lately there have also been some additional challenges.
Arena says the rising cost of gas is making it more expensive to get and make deliveries. But he says he won’t let that get in the way of the quality of his product because he knows how important days like Mother’s Day are.
“There’s emotions attached to the orders, whether it’s a child to their mom or whatever the occasion. We have parents coming in and getting flowers for their kids that are graduating and that’s incredibly sentimental as well. So we take it all very seriously,” Arena said.
Arena says despite the gas prices, he hasn’t raised delivery prices in more than two years. He says one of the most popular flower options around here is the local lilacs.
