The Chicago Bears are adding depth to their wide receivers room with the signing of free agent Scotty Miller.
Miller, who was in attendance at the Bears’ rookie minicamp practice on Friday on a tryout basis, has parlayed that tryout into a contract with the team. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter has the scoop:

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) May 9, 2026Some background on the new guy from Patrick K. Flowers’ post before the veteran wideout’s tryout with the Bears:
Miller was a 2019 sixth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who spent the last two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also spent a season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2023. Miller’s playing time with the Steelers over the last two seasons was limited, seeing only 165 snaps and 12 targets in 2025. He had only nine targets in 2024 with the Steelers and 16 with the Falcons in 2023.
Miller’s best season came with the Buccaneers in 2020, when he caught 37 catches for 581 yards and four touchdowns.

Scotty Miller joins a WRs room that is headlined by Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III, includes 2025 undrafted free agent Jahdae Walker, brought in Zavion Thomas as a third-round pick, and added free-agent Kalif Raymond back in March. There is a part of me that believes there is still something missing from this group, especially since it doesn’t have a third receiver with playmaking ability and flair for the dramatic in big games like DJ Moore. However, rostering tight ends Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet (as well as running back D’Andre Swift) means that this collection of pass catchers is still as deep as last year’s group.
Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson said of Scotty Miller that the receiver was “certainly very intriguing.” He also mentioned his connection to Wide Receivers Coach Antwaan Randle El, who coached Miller while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I found it interesting that Johnson brought that up in the moment. But I find it more interesting that the connection between Randle El and Miller from their past helped bring the two back together in Chicago. Last year, we saw Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen lean on his past relationships (D’Marco Jackson, C.J. Gardner-Johnson) to land depth players who could lend a helping hand. Perhaps we will see the same with Randle El in this scenario.
