For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ohio high school state finalist Eddie Campion has announced his commitment to swim at Case Western Reserve University beginning in the fall of 2026. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:

I am excited to announce my commitment to Case Western Reserve University where I will continue my academic and athletic careers! I want to thank my coaches, Coach Jim and Coach Calvin, and my friends on WAC for giving me this opportunity as well as Coaches Doug and Matt of CWRU for helping me through the process. Finally, I would like to thank my family for supporting me and giving me every opportunity to progress in this sport. Go Spartans!

A senior at Olentangy High School in Lewis Center, Campion competed for his school’s varsity swimming and diving team all four years. He currently trains year-round with Westerville Aquatic Club, where he primarily specializes in distance freestyle.

While swimming for Olentangy, Campion qualified for the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division I State Championships in each of his final three seasons. His top performance came this past February, where he made an ‘A’ final for the first time, placing fourth in the 500 free (4:37.16) and 23rd in the 200 free (1:44.67). His 500 time was a then-lifetime best, while his 1:44.67 in the 200 was just off his current personal best of 1:44.01, set a week prior at a smaller divisional meet.

Last month, Campion clocked all of his current distance bests at the Ohio Tim Myers Senior Championships, claiming his first state titles in the process. He won the 1000 free (9:32.15) and 1650 free (15:48.77), placed third in the 500 free (4:35.34), and finished 15th in the 400 IM (4:12.32), in addition to swimming some off-events in prelims.

A year ago, Campion’s personal bests stood at 1:44.30 in the 200 free, 4:39.03 in the 500, 16:01.49 in the 1650, and 4:13.12 in the 400 IM. He has since made his most notable strides in the longer events, dropping nearly four seconds in the 500 and over 12 in the 1650, a progression that bodes well as he transitions to collegiate swimming.

A Division III program, CWRU competes in the University Athletic Association, with the men’s team placing sixth out of eight teams at this past season’s conference championships. Campion’s lifetime bests would have placed him fifth in the 1650 free, earned a spot in the ‘C’ final of both the 500 free and 400 IM, and put him not far off the 1:41.53 needed to earn a second swim in the 200 free, setting him up to be an immediate contributor.

On the team itself, Campion is projected to lead the team in the 1650 free by upwards of 25 seconds, rank second in the 500 free, and seventh in the 200 free, bringing immediate help in the distance events and a chance to work his way onto the 800 free relay during his tenure with the program.

His arrival is particularly timely with the upcoming graduation of John Drumm, who led the distance group with times of 4:26.67 in the 500 and 15:42.79 in the 1650 this past season and was the program’s only swimmer to crack the top 16 in any distance event at the UAA Championships. Campion will, however, find a strong training partner in current sophomore Owen Miao, who owns a lifetime best of 4:33.58.

Campion joins Max Carter (back), Jay Huang (back/sprint free), George Hudson (breast/IM/sprint free), Jordan Estimo (distance free/fly/IM), Emmanuel Chu (breast/IM), Arman Edilyan (sprint free), Owen Rosenthal (breast), and Baran Watson (fly) in the Spartans’ class of 2030. Huang, Hudson, Estimo, and Edilyan all bring 200 free times in the 1:42-1:43 range, while Hudson (4:08.9), Chu (4:12.49), and Estimo (4:12.98) bring comparable 400 IM times to Campion’s 4:12.32, with Estimo also owning a 4:38.6 PB in the 500 free.
