Bulls Reportedly Closing On Next President, Coach — But Did the Reinsdorfs Look Hard Enough? ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Our Chicago Bulls are barreling towards the 2026 NBA Draft — where they’ll have two first-round picks and a pair of seconds — without either a team president or a head coach officially employed.

But the Reinsdorfs, John Paxson and co. have been busy looking for that new front office leader to replace dismissed president Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley.

The Bulls’ reported final four contenders for the lead front office gig are:

Atlanta Hawks senior vice president of basketball operations Bryson Graham Detroit Pistons senior VP Dennis Lindsey Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Matt Lloyd Boston Celtics assistant GM Dave Lewin

Chicago is apparently striving to bring a new decision maker aboard before the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, which kicks off during the second week of May — after May 10’s Draft Lottery.

Bulls’ Next President, Coach Coming… Together?

Per a new report, Chicago might already be circling both a new president among this foursome — and, on a related note, a new coach.

Sources inform Michael Scotto of HoopsHype that Lloyd has become the favorite to land the primary executive role in Chicago. And, should Lloyd be brought aboard, Scotto submits that he might be quick to bring aboard lead Minnesota assistant coach Micah Nori to replace Billy Donovan along the Bulls’ bench.

Scotto notes that Nori, who’s been serving under Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch since 2021, has interviewed for multiple head coaching gigs in recent seasons, including the Los Angeles Lakers vacancy in 2024 and the New York Knicks opening in 2025. Nori has also enjoyed assistant coaching stints for Dwane Casey (with the Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors), Michael Malone (the Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings), and Jay Triano (Detroit).

Most notably, Nori served as Minnesota’s acting head coach during its surprising run to the 2024 Western Conference Finals, after Finch was waylaid by a patellar tendon injury late into the final game of a first-round sweep over that miserable Kevin Durant/Devin Booker/Bradley Beal Phoenix Suns team.

Could the Bulls Pass Over a Rising Star in the Coaching Ranks?

Cost-effective new Portland Trail Blazers majority owner Tom Dundon, who’s already raised eyebrows with some of his weird price-slashing moves throughout the club’s brief playoff stint, reportedly interviewed other contenders to replace interim head coach Tiago Splitter during the postseason, per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

“Just trying to be a pro,” Splitter said regarding the rumors following a Game 2 playoff series win. “[I] try to focus on my locker room and my staff to stay and think about basketball. Same way when I got the job and all the stuff that was going on.”

If Dundon does let Splitter walk, he’d be the exact kind of talented young coach worth considering, too. Nori seems like a terrific candidate, but bringing him aboard should not be a fait accompli for Lloyd. Unless we’re talking about someone with the pedigree of Erik Spoelstra, Mark Daigneault or Steve Kerr, other candidates should be considered before taking a flier on an assistant.

Splitter was so good in helping navigate a promising, defense-first young Trail Blazers squad to its first playoff berth in five years that most of us forgot the team’s 2025-26 campaign kicked off with actual head coach Chauncey Billups being indicted on federal gambling charges.

The Trail Blazers went 42-40 on the year, flattened the favored Phoenix Suns in their 7-8 play-in tournament game, and saw point forward Deni Avdija ascend to All-Star status. Yes, that got obliterated in a five-game first-round series by the 62-20 San Antonio Spurs, but that’s more the result of a massive talent deficit than anything else. Splitter even (briefly) revived Scoot Henderson’s sagging career! Should Portland let Splitter walk, he’s well worth consideration, regardless of who takes the Bulls president gig.
