New York State lab steps in to test for rabies, flu and other diseases as CDC pauses testing ...Middle East

News by : (News10NBC) -

ALBANY, N.Y. — As the CDC pauses testing for multiple diseases, New York State says it’s filling the gap.

The State Health Department says its Wadsworth Center in Albany is helping with lab testing for a range of viruses, including rabies, pox and flu. The Wadsworth Center received more than 13,000 samples from 23 states last year.

The Health Department says the center was critical in helping develop this year’s Northern Hemisphere seasonal flu vaccine. In one case, it even identified the drug-resistance pattern that helped a Texas tuberculosis patient finally recover.

The CDC picked Wadsworth as a National Influenza Reference Center and reference center for vaccine preventable viral diseases from 2025-2030.
