Scott Howard posted a message on X after news that he would be replaced in the Georgia football radio booth by Jeff Dantzler. Howard was a member of the broadcast team since 1993, starting as the color analyst beside the late Larry Munson before handling road play-by-play duties in 2007 and taking the role full-time after Munson retired in 2008.
“Thank you to everyone for all the messages. Didn’t know that many people had my number,” Howard said. “Just to clear up any confusion, respectfully, it was not my decision to step away from the football broadcast.”
Howard will remain with the Georgia Bulldog Radio Network as the men’s basketball play-by-play man. But that won’t soothe the feelings of fans who had grown used to hearing his voice for decades during the fall on Saturdays. Many were listening when the Dawgs celebrated their first national championship since 1980 in Indianapolis before going undefeated a season later and hoisting the trophy once more. They’ll also remember his call of DeVonta Smith’s overtime catch to lead Alabama past Georgia in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Meanwhile, Dantzler won’t be the only new voice in the booth. Former UGA offensive lineman Matt Stinchcomb will join as color analyst.
Thank you to everyone for all the messages. Didn’t know that many people had my number . Just to clear up any confusion, respectfully, it was not my decision to step away from the football broadcast.
