Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Adrian Del Castillo left Sunday’s game against the San Diego Padres with an apparent hand injury.
With one out and a runner on first base in the third inning, Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill fouled a ball off Del Castillo’s glove, and his immediate reaction showed he was in pain.
He tried to shake it off, but after working with the trainers and flexing his right hand, the D-backs catcher left the game, and James McCann replaced him.

Sunday was Del Castillo’s 11th start of the season and he’s batting .239 in 12 total games with 10 RBI.
Del Castillo is the third Diamondback to leave injured during Arizona’s two-game set in Mexico City.
The D-backs saw shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (left ankle sprain) and Zac Gallen (right shoulder contusion) exit Saturday’s game, and Perdomo was out of the lineup on Sunday.
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said pregame Sunday that it is unlikely the shortstop will be placed on the injured list.
