Roylance recently appeared on Jim Masters’ The Jim Masters Show on YouTube, where she discussed her career, from Little House on the Prairie to decades of work in Hollywood.
“Days of Our Lives was wonderful because it was a series regular.” Roylance said.
Roylance said she initially believed landing the soap role meant she would “work in this town forever,” but soon found herself unexpectedly searching for another job.
Roylance also praised veteran soap actresses for their ability to command the screen and make viewers invest in their storylines. “I think these women who play these roles are really good because they just are present in their bodies and they know how to take a scene and play a role and make the audience come into them and say, ‘We want to see more of you, your storyline, or more with this guy or that person.’”
Roylance added that producers tested her chemistry with multiple cast members, nut nothing clicked. “I wasn't uplifting their story line much,” she said. “And you have to give the writers something to write about. I was pretty timid. I was not wanting to step on anybody's toes.”
Still, Roylance now sees the experience as valuable. “I think it's beautiful to find out as an actor where are your strong points, where are you comfortable, where are you going to be really happy in your skin, in that wardrobe, and playing roles that fit that.”
