DET has No. 17 Overall Pick
The Detroit Lions currently hold the No. 17 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Lions went 9-8 in 2025 and missed the postseason after going 15-2 in 2024 and reaching the NFC Championship Game in 2023. The focus is on the draft this week, and here are three positions the Lions will be looking to address.
1. Offensive Line
Boosting the offensive line will be a huge focus for the Lions heading into the 2026 season. Detroit needs a guy opposite Penei Sewell, regardless if they end up flipping him over to the left side. That means we could see Georgia’s Monroe Freeling and Alabama’s Kadyn Proctor in the mix in the first round. Both are top 20 prospects on ESPN’s Big Board.

Adding DJ Wonnum will help, but Detroit still needs more help off the edge.
No. 17 is a tough spot in round 1 when it comes to getting value off the edge. Thankfully, there is plenty of depth in this year’s edge rusher class, with 10 prospects ranking in the top 60 overall. This means Detroit can focus on the offensive line in the first round and still have a chance to add a valuable player off the edge in round 2 if it decides to go that route.
3. Secondary
Injuries have decimated the Lions’ secondary over the last two seasons, and some inconsistency will have the Lions looking to add depth. While it’s unlikely it will happen in round 1, the Lions could pull the trigger on a talented corner like Mansoor Delane or Jermond McCoy if they somehow slide. 2024 first-rounder Terrion Arnold played just 8 games in 2025.
While the safety position has plenty of veterans, there are questions thanks to injuries. Kerby Joseph is coming off a knee injury. Brian Branch is coming off a torn Achilles. Safety could be a target in the middle rounds to add depth behind Joseph and Branch, who could be in and out to start the season.
