Happy NFL Draft Week! What Picks Do the Bears Have? Wants and Needs, Best and Worst, and Other Bears Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Day 91 of the Chicago Bears offseason. The NFL Draft begins this week. And while Chicago’s football team isn’t picking in the top-10, it doesn’t mean I’m any less excited for one of my favorite weeks of the year. Heck, I’d go as far as to say that the Bears not picking in the top-10 has me looking forward to this week more than I usually do.

The most important thing to know entering NFL Draft week is what picks the Bears will have. Things can change between now and when the event opens its doors on Thursday. Heck, this front office has made trades in each draft since Ryan Poles arrived as the team’s general manager. With that in mind, I expect a shakeup at some point. Until then, these are the picks Chicago has at its disposal: Round 1: Pick 25 Round 2: Pick 57 Round 2: Pick 60 Round 3: Pick 89 Round 4: Pick 129 Round 7: Pick 239 Round 7: Pick 241 Positions the Bears seem primed to fill this weekend: A starting left tackle for 2026, an interior offensive lineman who can provide depth in 2026 and slide into the starting center role in 2027, a starting-caliber edge defender who can rush the passer while not being a liability against the run, an interior defensive lineman who can fortify the run defense while not being a zero as a pass-rusher, a safety who can pair with Coby Bryant in the starting lineup, a cornerback who could push Tyrique Stevenson for the starting job in 2026, a wide receiver who solidify that WR3 spot by doing the things DJ Moore did, and a tight end who can function primarily as a blocker but also chip in as a pass-catcher. A new episode of The BN Bears Podcast is coming soon! And it will include your questions. More details here:

One thing I liked about last year’s Bears draft class is the multiplicity that their picks brought to the table. Colston Loveland wasn’t just a pass-catching tight end. Luther Burden III was a receiver prospect who could line up at various spots in a formation. Ozzy Trapilo was someone they believed had the ability to play multiple positions along the offensive line. Shemar Turner was a prospect with experience playing inside and out. Even a Day 3 pick like Luke Newman had positional versatility. With that in mind, I expect the Bears to find more players like that in the upcoming NFL Draft. ESPN’s Adam Schefter weighs in on the Buffalo Bills, whose second-round pick belongs to the Bears after the DJ Moore trade:

After the Bills traded their 2020 first-round pick to Minnesota to get wide receiver Stefon Diggs, Buffalo played highlights of their new acquisition when that No. 22 pick rolled around. Now the Bills traded their 2026 second-round pick (No. 60) to Chicago as part of a package to acquire wide receiver DJ Moore. As much as Buffalo didn’t like parting with its second-rounder, and it’s not happy about currently being out of that round, it landed a playmaker who drew the interest of multiple teams. And when the No. 60 pick rolls around, the Bills can now play Moore’s highlights.

No one loves a win-win trade more than yours truly. And I feel like that is exactly what the Bears and Bills pulled off with the DJ swap. Chicago received some cap relief and a valuable Day 2 pick, while Buffalo landed a certified pass-catcher with a flair for the dramatic for quarterback Josh Allen. I’m sure the Bills would like to have a pick, just as I am sure the Bears would love to still have DJ Moore on their roster. But sometimes, you’ve gotta make a deal that makes sense for your squad in the long run, even if it might sting a little bit up front. Mandatory Credit: Lon Horwedel-Imagn Images Bryan DeArdo (CBS Sports) runs down the best (and worst) draft picks of the 21st century for each of the NFL’s 32 teams. The best pick is an easy one, with linebacker Brian Urlacher being an unquestioned choice. Chicago took a player whose résumé includes eight Pro Bowl trips, four first-team All-Pro nods, Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2000, Defensive Player of the Year recognition in 2005, a spot on the All-2000s Team, and enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. An absolute no-brainer. The Bears have had their share of draft hits since the turn of the century. Devin Hester (Round 2, Pick 57 in 2006) turned in a Hall of Fame career. Charles Tillman (Round 2, Pick 35 in 2003) has a Hall of Fame case. Folks outside of Chicago criminally underrate Lance Briggs (Round 3, Pick 68 in 2003). Matt Forte (Round 2, Pick 44 in 2008) is the team’s best running back since Walter Payton’s retirement. Tight end Greg Olsen, wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, offensive lineman Kyle Long, cornerback Kyle Fuller, safety Eddie Jackson, linebacker Roquan Smith, running back David Montgomery, and cornerback Jaylon Johnson are also among my favorite picks the Bears have made over the years.

Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky appears as the worst pick the Bears have made, according to DeArdo. On the one hand, I get it. And I do not have any interest in rehashing the 2017 NFL Draft. However, in Trubisky’s defense, he led the team to the postseason twice in a three-year span (2018, 2020) and was the first-ever NVP award recipient. Trubisky didn’t live up to where he was drafted, but we did have some fun along the way. FOX Sports explores the fallout from the weekend’s Dexter Lawrence trade, including why the 10th overall pick wasn’t valuable to the Cincinnati Bengals. I’m just glad that the Bears didn’t pony up a first-round pick for a player who, had it not been for a desperate Cincy squad, would probably not have netted a first-round selection.
