It’s playoff basketball time, and Day 1 is in the books.
A couple of entertaining games to kick things off, but more importantly, we’ve got updates on the Chicago Bulls front office search. Also, some insane cross sport love for Chicago Sky’s newest draft pick. A lot of fun stuff to speculate on and get into this Sunday.
Let’s talk Bulls basketball.
@ Brad Penner-Imagn Images Before the Chicago Bulls make a decision on who will be in charge, they first had to decide who’s going to find that person.“We are going to hire a search firm,” said Michael Reinsdorf. “Who’s going to help us cast a wide net.”
And according to Erik Lambert, the firm tasked with the job is TurnkeyZRG, which he described as the “third best in the country.” Their resume includes some big hires: Dusty May at Michigan, Curt Cignetti at Indiana, and Todd Golden at Florida. On the NBA side, the top team in the East, the Detroit Pistons, hired Trajan Langdon as President of Basketball Operations with help from TurnkeyZRG. While most of their headline work has come in coaching hires rather than front office roles, their involvement could finally help Chicago land the kind of front office it’s been chasing, one that’s ready to take on the Bulls as they are, Billy Donovan and all.LIVE: Bulls President & CEO Michael Reinsdorf t.co/jMk7HurPXp
— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) April 7, 2026 Speaking of Billy Donovan, he might be creeping into a top-two ranking he probably won’t love. With Tom Thibodeau currently without a job, Doc Rivers stepping away, and Steve Kerr uncertain about his future, Donovan could soon become the second-oldest head coach in the NBA, behind only Rick Carlisle of the Indiana Pacers. They might even end up as the only two coaches in the league aged 60 or older.Just something that popped up with so many of the league’s veteran coaches slowly driving off into the sunset."I don't know what's gonna happen next, but I love you guys to death." ?Steve Kerr's message to Steph and Draymond at the end of the Suns game ? pic.twitter.com/78UfbFHXCm
— NBA on Prime (@NBAonPrime) April 18, 2026 While the Golden State Warriors saw their season end in the NBA Play-In Tournament, eight other teams tipped off their playoff runs last night. The first game featured the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors. The Cavs took Game 1 at home in a fairly comfortable win. They grabbed control in the second quarter and never looked back, leading by as much as 24 in what turned into a blowout. Donovan Mitchell finished with a game-high 32 points. Next up were the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves—a matchup that feels like it happens every postseason. It also marked former Chicago Bulls’ guard, Ayo Dosunmu’s first playoff game as a Timberwolf, and he made a solid impression with 14 points, the most by any bench player in the game. Unfortunately for Minnesota, it came in a loss, as the duo of Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokić handled business at home. The New York Knicks hosted the Atlanta Hawks in what’s quietly become a modern rivalry. Back in the 2020–21 season, Atlanta, led by Trae Young, sent the Knicks home in the first round. Even though Young is no longer on the Hawks, Knicks fans haven’t forgotten, letting him hear it with chants at Madison Square Garden. As for the game itself, it was another one-sided contest, with the Knicks taking control early and cruising to a 1–0 series lead. And finally, the Houston Rockets faced the Los Angeles Lakers. No Luka Dončić, no Austin Reaves, no Kevin Durant, but the Lakers still got it done, led by a 27-point performance from Luke Kennard. LeBron James took on more of a facilitator role, racking up a game-high 13 assists. It’s pretty clear the Rockets will need to be fully healthy if they want to seriously challenge even a shorthanded Lakers squad.? — NBA (@NBA) April 19, 2026 Back to some Chicago news, this time not about the Bulls, but the Chicago Sky. Their newest pickup from the WNBA Draft, Gabriela Jaquez, isn’t just becoming a local fan favorite, she’s starting to catch the attention of legends from other sports, too. Thierry Henry, the soccer icon turned commentator, recently spoke about Jaquez’s standout performance in the national championship game, the same one that sent her draft stock soaring.“I watched the other day the NCAA tournaments,” said Henry. “In the women’s final, you see UCLA beating South Carolina. No one thought that was going to happen… The way Gabriela Jaquez played reminded me of Marcos Llorente, and how UCLA won that title.”
That’s some serious praise, coming straight from soccer royalty.OMFG, Thierry Henry just spoke about how impressed he was with @UCLAWBB winning the championship. He name drops Gabs, Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice!Everyone else is clueless but Thierry knows his Bruins! That was so great @CBSSportsGolazo! CC : @CoachCoriClose pic.twitter.com/JPgUbPbX1f
