But if you were hoping the Chicago Bears would swing a trade for the Pro Bowl defensive lineman, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news. It isn’t the Bears cutting a deal with the New York Giants. Instead, it is the Cincinnati Bengals. Yeah, that’s right … the Bengals.

I did not see that one coming.
To be clear, I figured Lawrence would be traded after the latest round of reporting had him wanting out of New York altogether. But I did not see a team paying a hefty price after the three-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman’s most recent request painted the Giants in a corner.
Not only did the Giants get a first-round pick in exchange for Lawrence, but they got the No. 10 overall selection in Round 1. WUT!? This comes just days after ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter suggested that there wasn’t going to be a team that would trade a first-round pick for Dexter Lawrence, who is set to enter his age-29 season. Ope! So much for that one. Let this be a reminder that all it takes is one desperate fool to blow up a player’s perceived trade value.
(Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images)Clearly, this is a sign that the Bengals believe that Dexter Lawrence (and the extension he will soon get after the deal becomes officially official) is more valuable than whatever player they could have picked with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. But on the other side of the coin, the Giants (who already have pick No. 5) must have felt that having the No. 10 pick in Round 1 has more value than keeping Lawrence (a team captain) and giving him the pay bump he has been requesting. What a fascinating trade.
This trade is a mind-boggling one to me because it feels like the Bengals are paying a steep price. Better them than the Bears, if you ask me. And it certainly beats him going to the Green Bay Packers.
