The Blackhawks first shot on goal in the game game with about 4:08 left in the first period. But the only goal scored in the first period redirected in off Ethan Del Mastro. Obviously not ideal. The Sharks got a power play in the second period and everything went right… except a Michael Misa pass attempt from the corner of the net hit… Del Mastro and slipped thru Spencer Knight.
San Jose continued to give the Blackhawks power play opportunities, and the third time was (almost) the charm. The Hawks didn’t score while on the advantage, but they did get on the board with 30 seconds left in the second period to go to the room trailing by only one.
And then the Blackhawks just… took over the third period and completely dominated. I haven’t heard the United Center that loud in months. Three straight goals took the volume thru the roof. Starting late in the second period, the Blackhawks scored FIVE UNANSWERED GOALS!
Star 1: Louis Crevier
The pass from Connor Bedard here is absolutely filthy, but I’m going to give Crevier the nod here. I tweeted some appreciation for him before the game and he held up his end of the bargain. Crevier has been really good all year, so him closing the books on this season with a huge night is great for him.

Bedard was feisty from the get-go (he had two penalties in the first two periods) but he looked like he really wanted it in tonight. And he started to impose himself on the game in the third period. Here’s his ridiculous backhand pass to Crevier on the game-tying goal in the third period.

Knight was really good again tonight. When the Blackhawks were scrambling at times in the first two periods, he made a few spectacular saves.
Key Takeaways
Holy **** that third period was fun! Ryan Donato was the Blackhawks’ most active forward in the first two periods by a pretty decent margin. He was credited with a team-leading five shot attempts, a team-high four individual scoring chances (no other skater had more than two) and led the Blackhawks with three individual high danger chances — in only 9:42 of ice time. Donato had the primary assist on Sam Rinzel‘s goal to get the Blackhawks on the board.GOAL: Sam Rinzel fires a shot that squeaks past Askarov for his 4th goal of the season. pic.twitter.com/KtvLIIifU6
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) April 16, 2026 After both of San Jose’s first two goals went in off Del Mastro, and Ryan Greene missed one of the most wide open shots you’ll ever see in the third period, they got together on the go-ahead goal in the third period and totally redeemed themselves.GOAL: Ethan Del Mastro sets up Ryan Greene, who taps in his 12th goal of the season to give the Blackhawks the lead. pic.twitter.com/Q6fbEJ0qx0
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) April 16, 2026 Ilya Mikheyev was awarded a penalty shot in the first period. He was not able to convert. That was credited as the Blackhawks’ second shot of the game. Despite the shots on goal numbers being ugly in the first period, it wasn’t for lack of trying by the Blackhawks. The Sharks only had a 12-11 shot attempt advantage after 20 minutes. The second period didn’t start incredibly well for the Blackhawks, but they rallied to play really well in the second half. The Hawks had a 6-3 advantage in high danger chances in the second period and both sides had 15 shot attempts in the middle frame. Macklin Celebrini got away with a blatant trip on the opening faceoff. Nothing to see here. Nothing at all.
